As a citizens advisory group continues to work on its recommendation for a permanent marijuana growing ordinance, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department remains busy with violations of the interim ordinance. The Department has responded to 317 neighbors’ complaints so far this year, compared to 364 all of last year. It was 286 in 2015 and 243 in 2014. Bringolf says most of the complaints are for growing too many plants that are also too close to a neighboring property, creating a strong odor. And he says it’s unlikely the number of complaints will go down, if at all, when legalized recreational growing goes into effect next year. Bringolf expects there’ll be even more grows…

Counties and cities can also still ban larger commercial grows. It’s not allowed in Nevada County at this time.
