Nevada County District Attorney Cliff Newell says Christopher Leenhouts was arrested last August after he was discovered growing marijuana on property owned by Sierra Pacific Industries off of Chalk Bluff Road. California State Fish and Wildlife Warden Jerry Karnow saw what Leenhouts was up to and contacted Nevada County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force to assist in the investigation.

Leenhouts says he was growing for medicinal marijuana users and had a number of recommendations, but they were not properly posted and there were other violations of the prop 215 county ordinance.
Christopher Leenhouts was charged with 4 misdemeanor Fish  and Wildlife code violations all relating to environmental health, but Newell says the real penalty will come when the judge imposes civil penalties on top of the criminal misdemeanor action.

Newell says Leenhouts was also using a gas powered pump in a creekbed of dry grasses to pump water which was very dangerous during high fire season.
