Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. This is the only cause of death in the top 10 that cannot be prevented, slowed or cured. The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation is currently fundraising to increase the support they can offer to families facing dementia through their Alzheimer’s Outreach program.
Hospital Foundation Executive Director Kimberly Parker says right now the program has a part time navigator to help people with Alzheimer’s and their families.
They would also like to expand a 7 week “Yes I Can” support program for caregivers that is currently offered twice a year, but is always full so they would like to be able to offer that more often.
Remember Me! The Face Behind Dementia is a campaign of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation to raise $200,000 to support the nearly 3,000 people in our community dealing with Alzheimer’s. Their next fundraising event is Martini’s and a Movie March 16th at the Del Oro Theatre. People can also get information to donate on the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation website.
