Measure A Passage Confirmed With Vote Update

Last week’s update of Nevada County election results has confirmed the passage of Measure A, which increases the sales tax for the library system by another fourth-of-a-cent. County Librarian, Laura Pappani, says it’ll make a huge difference in services, about doubling their revenues next year. An estimated 1.8 million dollars was brought in this year. She says they polled the community’s priorities at the beginning of the year…

And Pappani says more community input will be sought to come up with more detailed plans. The original measure established a citizen’s oversight committee to audit how the library manages the money….

Pappani says 65% of their budget comes from the sales tax measure. The previous measure, Measure C, which was approved in 2002, and wasn’t set to expire until 2018. But Pappani says the committee felt they had a better chance to pass another increase during an election year. Measure A was approved by about 70% of the vote, with two-thirds approval needed, or about 66.7%.
