Grass Valley’s cannabis business license tax is getting 61-percent support on election night as the City Council is scheduled to review an ordinance, at its next meeting, that would allow dispensaries to open. Under Measure N, City Manager Tim Kiser says businesses, as well as cultivators, would be taxed between 50 cents and four-dollars per square foot each year…
But unlike Nevada City, Kiser says Measure N has an additional tax on gross profits designed to discourage businesses selling products that would be tempting for young people…
Kiser estimates the tax could raise as much as 200-thousand dollars a year for Grass Valley. He says the city has been observing how Nevada City’s ordinance has been working before taking action on its own plan.
