Medi-Cal Seminar for Seniors Friday

Nevada County seniors and people with disabilities who are on Medi-Cal are facing a critical decision and a fast approaching deadline to conform with the Affordable Care Act. Local non profits are joining Western Sierra Medical Center and FREED Center for Independent Living in organizing a half day workshop on Managed Care Plans that will help answer questions and educate medi-cal recipients about how to choose a managed care health plan. Dr. Glenn Thiel is Chief Medical Director of Western Sierra Medical Center and says open enrollment is underway now and goes to December 1st.*

The workshop will help Medi-Cal recipients choose a managed health care plan that best suits their individual needs. There are two plans to choose from, California Health and Wellness, and Anthem Blue Cross.*

Dr. Thiel says the region has about 35 medical professionals and medical centers that will accept Medi-Cal, so some seniors and people with disabilities will need to find a new physician. He says the two managed Care plans available in Nevada County must cover certain basic needs.*

The workshop is Friday October 17th from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Gold Miners Inn-Holiday Inn Express , 121 Bank St. in Grass Valley. Residents can enroll in a managed care program during the workshop. The workshop is free but to RSVP or get more information call FREED Center For Independent Living at 477-3333.
