Thiem says he’s not sure how many dispensaries might open, that zoning would still be restrictive, and excludes the historical downtown district. And he doubts it would reduce growing. He says it would be a greater benefit for those who never could grow marijuana…

The Commission will discuss a separate ordinance for growers at their meeting on February 17th. Among the changes to the dispensary ordinance that it recommends is child-proof packaging on marijuana products. Also, no mandatory background checks for dispensary employees, although owners and operators would still need to submit to them. The City Council has the final say and are expected to discuss the recommendations in the next month.
