Memorial Bridge Tour Led By Caravan

This year’s Memorial Bridge tour in Grass Valley and Nevada City this afternoon is still impacted by the pandemic, but should be no less moving. Tour organizer Lee Mau says a vehicle caravan, led by a Grass Valley police officer, will leave at around one o’clock from the Veterans Memorial Building.There are 15 bridges honoring fallen local heroes from the Viet Nam, Iraq, and Afghanistan wars…

The American Legion arranged the original bridge and plaque dedications, from the Viet Nam war, in the late 1960’s, when the Golden Center freeway was constructed. Then, a desire to honor local heroes from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts began in 2010, which led to the tour of the bridges, starting in 2012…

Mau says there will also be a live video Facebook feed from each site. Docents will stay at the sites until around two this afternoon.
