Memorial Day Activities

Memorial Day activities will start in Nevada City Pioneer Park Monday morning at 9am with a fly over, honor guard and a few words from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. people who would like to take a bicycle tour of the veterans memorial plaques that are located around Nevada City and Grass Valley can hook up Duane and Connie Strawser who will lead the group from Pioneer Park.

At 11am Memorial Day activities will get underway at the Grass Valley Veterans Building. Event MC and Retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander, Claude Hessel, says the program begins with a famous poem.

Following the Presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance The National Anthem will be sung by a 7 year old.

The Keynote speakers will be three survivors of Pearl Harbor.*

A microphone will be passed around the audience for attendees to ask questions of these three Pearl Harbor survivors. The program will come to a close around noon time. The boy scouts Troop 855 will have a BBQ lunch available downstairs in the dining hall.
And through the afternoon Friends of Nevada County Military will be taking the public by bus or on foot for a “Local Heroes Memorial Bridge Walk.

Also, on Saturday Night , May 23rd, The American Legion, Frank Gallino Post 130 will be putting on a Dance… from Bob Segers “Old time Rock and roll” to Glenn Millers “In the Mood”, Elvis Presley to George Strait and everything in Between. the cost is $7 at the door the dance is from 6 to 10 pm on the Large Hardwood Dance Floor at the Grass Valley Veterans Building.
