Memorial Day Observance in Nevada County

Local Memorial Day events on Monday May 30th will begin will be a short service to honor those who have given their lives defending our country at the flag pole at Pioneer Park, in Nevada City. Directed by Will Buck the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, that will get underway at 9 am, followed at 9:15 by a bicycle tour of Memorial Bridges led by Connie Strawser, of Tour of Nevada City Bicycle Shop.
At 11 am American Legion Post 130 member Claude Hessel says the Memorial Day ceremony at the Grass Valley Veterans Hall gets underway .
It will begin with a tribute to fallen soldier, Norm Dotson .

Hessel says Dodson died after a battle with cancer that was caused by his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam.

Then the program will continue with the Keynote Speakers.

The second keynote speaker is a Lt. Col. US Air Force retired.

There will be lots of patriotic music towards the end as vocalist Donna Matson will perform a medley of Service Songs.

Boy Scouts will have a barbecue lunch available after the ceremony around noontime. Then at 1 o’clock those wanting to take Grass Valley Memorial Bridge walking tours will meet under the Memorial Bridge Tour Banner in front of the Veterans Hall.
