Military Appreciation Supports Business Partnerships

With Veterans Day less than a week away, Nevada County’s first annual Military Appreciation Week officially begins on Saturday and runs through Sunday, November 14th. But the county’s Veterans Services Officer, David West, says another big reason for establishing it is to make communities more attractive to veterans and current service members as customers.

Dozens of local businesses have registered their discounts for military members. County Human Resources Director Steve Rose says strengthening the relationship with Beale Air Force Base is another reason for expanding activities beyond just one day. He says Beale has an annual economic impact of around 210-million dollars.

Veterans Services is also continuing to focus on reducing homelessness to functional zero by Veterans Day. They help over 10-thousand vets and their departments each year. Military Appreciation Week will run each year on the Saturday before Veterans Day and through the following Sunday.
