The Young Musicians Competition (YMC) was first held in 1987. It provides the opportunity for Nevada, Placer, Sutter, Butte and Yuba County music students, grades 3-12, to study, memorize and perform classical repertoire for professional teachers and judges. Students can participate in solo as well as ensemble divisions. All participating students receive detailed written critiques from the judges.
Music in the Mountains works with private and public school music teachers to ensure that this program meets students’ needs. Cash prizes are awarded to winners. The Jean Brook Dunning Scholarship is awarded to best student performance. Tickets to the Showcase Concert, at the Nevada Theater this evening are $10 adults, youth free it starts at 7:00 pm.
