Missing Snowboarder in Castle Peak Area Located

Rescue crews in the Sierra report that a hiker missing since Monday has been found alive. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says the incident began with a report from the subjects father on Monday around 5:00 PM. The father and son, 26 year old Abraham Finkelstein, had been in the area of the Peter Grubb Hut and were attempting to get back to their vehicle near Highway 80 when the two men became separated. During the search, rescue team members were concerned Finkelstein had been caught in an avalanche.

However, last night shortly after 8:00 PM good news was received.

Abraham Finkelstein was transported to Forest Hospital in Truckee where he was checked out and medically cleared. Sheriff Royal gives credit and thanks to the California Office of Emergency Services, Tahoe Back Country Ski
Patrol, Tahoe Nordic Ski Patrol, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, and all of the volunteers with Nevada County
Search and Rescue for their efforts and resources during this event.
