More Bridgeport Bridge Funding Not In State Budget

A setback in efforts to obtain and accelerate more funding now needed to complete rehabilitation of the Bridgeport Covered Bridge. Nevada County Supervisor Hank Weston says an Assembly budget subcommittee has rejected a request from the State Parks Department to put another 2-point-6 million dollars in this year’s budget. That could also have moved up resumption of the project by a year. But he’s not discouraged…

Although the budget subcommittee rejected this year’s funding request, the chairman voted “yes”. Assemblyman Richard Bloom called the Covered Bridge an iconic historical landmark, with national significance. It’s been closed to pedestrian traffic since 2011, after engineers found severe and unsafe structural problems.
