Even though the drought emergency is over, the damage has already been done, with more than 100 million trees killed. And that’s why PG and E says it’s still working with Fire Safe Councils. This year they’ll be providing nearly $2 million to 43 councils and other wildfire danger reduction projects in 21 counties. Drummond says they’re also getting another $50,000, through a PG and E FEMA grant, to again offering financial assistance for property owners to remove dead trees, especially ones infected by bark beetles…

PG and E says projects include fuel reduction, shaded fuel breaks, emergency access, and chipping programs. This is the fourth straight year the utility has funded Fire Safe Council projects. Meanwhile, Drummond says they’ll be very busy again this year, with so much vegetation to deal with from the wettest winter on record in Nevada County.
