More Youth Texting While Driving

The use of cell phones by young drivers has seen a dramatic increase. Office of Traffic Safety spokesperson Chris Cochran says the number of people texting from the age of 16 to 25 year of age has doubled. He says the increase is partly due to the increasing number of smart phones and younger drivers believing they can multi- task while driving.

One fifth of younger drivers are believed to be texting or talking on their cell phones while driving. Cochran says the increase is the reason law enforcement has increased their enforcement of the hands free law.
