After being cancelled a year ago, because of the pandemic, the always-popular mosquito fish giveaways are returning to Nevada County, starting Thursday. There are five scheduled every other Thursday through July first, all at the Rood Center. But Environmental Health Director Amy Irani says it’ll be drive-by pickups only….

The fish eat mosquito larvae in ponds, watering troughs, and birdbaths on people’s properties. That also includes unused swimming pools, including at homes that are no longer occupied and/or up for sale…

And, as always, it’s while supplies last. So recipients will get anywhere from one to four fish. The first giveaway is from noon to 2pm on Thursday. The others are scheduled on May 20th, June third and seventeenth, and July first.
