Drummond says a state law passed in 2008 now requires new homes to also include an ember-resistant design. The Fire Safe Council held a 2-day defensible space workshop last week, with the second day taking place at a home. But Drummond says despite the consistent wildfire danger every year, a huge number of homeowners still don’t feel there’s a big threat…

Drummond says many property owners also need to do a better job of reducing vegetation near narrow, rural roads. She says that not only creates a safer vehicle escape route for them, but also means a safer route for firefighters.
