Motorcycle Bursts into Flame Following Crash

A motorcycle that was stuck by a second vehicle after an initial crash burst into flame on Highway 49 near Cherry Creek Rd Thursday evening around 5:30 PM. CHP Officer Reaves Douglas says that an officer was initially initiating a traffic stop on the motorcycle rider for excessive speed and following too closely. The rider pulled to the right shoulder and briefly came to a short stop. He then attempted to accelerate away from the patrol car.

The rider was ejected from the bike and came to rest in the middle of the road and the bike slid into the northbound lanes.

The rider, identified as 27 year old Eric Montague, suffered major injuries from the impact and was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Hospital. The accident remains under investigation.
