Nevada Union High School’s Mountain Bike team is already in training mode….getting ready for competitions that will start in February. Coach Don Hoffler says this year they have 32 riders , 7 are girls and as for how they are doing?*
The N-U Mountain Bike Team got started as a club sport in 2000 with less than 10 students. Riders are responsible for buying their own equipment and transportation to competing events that take them all over northern California.*
Some of the riders have become quite good. Hoffler says Merridith Nunnik who graduated last year had two summers finishing on the podium in national competitions in Idaho.*
Because the Mountain Bike team is not supported by the High School, they have to fundraise. Hoffler says they are having a raffle for a freezer full of meat, including the freezer. Tickets are available from any N-U Mountain Bike team member, at Nevada City Eats on Union Alley in Nevada City, and also at the Robinson Gas Station on Main Street across from the Grass Valley Post Office. Tickets are $1 for 1, $6 for 5 or $10 for 15. The drawing will be January 6th.
