A helicopter was called in as part of the rescue, and the mountain lion left the area, possibly scared off by the helicopter noise. Michilizzi says a warden returned to the trail the next day (Sunday).

Michillizzi says mountain lion sightings are rare, and its even more uncommon that a wildcat would act that agressively.
