Mural Project on Grass Valley City Council Agenda

An art controversy will be addressed by the Grass Valley City Council at its meeting tonight. The council will consider a proposal for a giant twenty-by-eighty foot mural on the north-facing wall of 101 Mill Street–right in the center of downtown.

While that doesn’t sound like something that would raise an uproar, Councilmember Jason Fouyer says anything that goes up in the historic downtown area will be an issue…

Grass Valley Mayor Howard Levine has recused himself from the discussion because he owns a building in that area. Vice Mayor Lisa Swarthout has a store on Mill Street, so she will also sit this one out. The council may decide to adopt the mural, deny it, or recommend changes. Public comment will be taken. The meeting is tonight at 7.
