The true story of daring drivers, desperate stage robbers, and the visionary men who brought the stagecoach to California during the tumultuous Gold Rush will be presented during Nevada County Historical Society Speaker Night this evening. The presenter is Cheryl Stapp, an award winning author.

Before the gold rush people in California didn’t seem to be in much of a hurry, but after gold was struck, speed was the new imperative to transport shiploads of frenzied fortune seekers to out-back mining districts. Providing the transportation was a natural transition for stages in the eastern states that were quickly being repleaced by the railroad.

Stapp will have a power point presentation with lots of pictures of those daring times before the railroad and the automobile arrived to California.
Speaker night is at the Madelyn Helling Libraray Community Room. The program begins at 7:00 pm. and is free to the public. They do suggest you come early for a good seat.
