The Nevada City, city council tonight will consider raising the cities sales tax by 3/8 of a percent to make up for funds lost from expiring grants for police and other departments. City Administrator David Brennan explains the needs in addition to having no discretionary reserve funds.
Brennan says the sales tax hike is for 5 years.
If the Tax hike is approved by the city council it would appear on the November ballot and if adopted it would apply to all taxable sales purchases occurring in Nevada City. It’s estimated that 65 percent of the sales tax would be paid by visitors to Nevada City and 35 percent by residents. the Nevada City City Council meeting gets underway at 6:30 this evening at City Hall on Broad Street.
