Nevada City Continues with Leadership Transitions

Nevada City continues to move through their administrative transitions with interim leadership in administrative services and at the police department. As the city moves forward with deciding how to best replace the police chief, one possibility is the combining law enforcement efforts with Grass Valley. The city already does that with fire services. Mayor Erin Minett says that continues to be a possibility along with other solutions.

Interim Chief, Ted Stec, came on board last week and Minett says he will be working through a collaborative process to identify what solution will best meet the needs of the city. The mayor also says Nevada City often serves as stepping stone for officers looking to make more money.

Nevada County, Grass Valley, and Nevada City currently respond to assist on calls across jurisdictional boundaries as a form of mutual aid.
Regarding the City Manager position, Mayor Minett says the city is hiring a consulting firm to identify someone with previous experience as a city manager.

She says council would love to keep Interim City Manager Joan Phillipe full time, but she is limited to the amount of hours she can work by the state retirement system.
