Nevada City has drafted an ordinance to ban single use paper and plastic bags. The proposal will be up for discussion at the City Council meeting tonight. The public is invited to comment, and no action will be taken this evening. City Manager Dave Brennan says the proposed ordinance is very similar to the one passed in Truckee…
Those would be paper bags. Brennan says plastic bags would need to be a lot stronger than the ones you commonly find now…
Restaurants would be exempt. Brennan says public comment will be considered for the next few months, and the ordinance wouldn’t come back to the council for an official first reading until July. People wouldn’t have to pay a bag fee until three months after the ordinance is adopted, or late this year.
