Nevada City Hires New Police Officer

A new Nevada City Police Officer was sworn in yesterday, though he is already well known to many in the community. Nevada City Police Chief Scott Berry says Sean Mason recited the Oath of Office and Police Officer Code of Ethics before his family, friends, and city employees in the Council Chambers of City hall yesterday

Officer Mason was born and raised in Nevada County having attended and graduated from Nevada Union High School. He has as Associate Degree from Butte Community College and graduated from the Basic Police Academy at Butte. Officer Mason’s family also has a law enforcement background, his father retired as a Sergeant from the Nevada County sheriff’s Office.  Chief Berry says it was possible to hire Mason after  officer Tucker Huey  retired. Officer Mason’s first official day on the job will be December 22nd.
