Royal says since Brewer had a prior felony DUI conviction it was illegal for him to possess weapons, which were believed to be in a safe. He says Brewer at first said he didn’t have the combination. But he soon after provided the combination, and a handgun and an assault rifle were found in the safe. 3 of the 5 felony charges were related to the weapons, with the other two charges related to the alleged assault on Brewer’s wife.
