After approving a dispensary ordinance last month, the Nevada City Planning Commission now considers a medical marijuana growing ordinance at its meeting Thursday afternoon. The City had actually approved a growing ordinance about a year ago. But the whole process had to start over again, when it wasn’t published within 15 days of passage. Commission Chairman Dan Thiem says this ordinance is not significantly different. Indoor growing would be limited to no more than 6 plants for those 21 and older. And it must be in enclosed spaces…
He says many similar communities have the same kinds of restrictions, including outdoor bans…
But Thiem says he’s not sure whether the commission will take action on the ordinance, which would then be forwarded to the City Council. He says with the passage of Proposition 64, which legalized recreational marijuana, there may be a lot more questions, comments, and scrutiny. The ordinance is part of the agenda of the meeting, which starts at 1:30 Thursday afternoon.
