With Nevada City narrowly approving the operator of its first marijuana dispensary last week, questions have now arisen about the selection process. The city hired a private consulting firm to help evaluate three applicants, and that firm along with a committee of two council members and city staff set up a scoring system based on a variety of issues. A group called ‘Elevation 2477’ was graded the highest and ultimately selected by the city council as the winning applicant, but most of the public comment at the council meeting last week favored another business called ‘Growing Community’. Mayor Duane Strawser says he will sit down with the City Attorney and Interim City Manager to discuss the scoring system…
The applicants were scored in such categories as benefit to the community, compatibility with the location, experience in the industry, and local attachment to the community. Strawser says the selection of ‘Elevation 2477’ is not in jeopardy at this time…
‘Elevation 2477’ won the selection by a 3-2 council vote. Strawser and council member Reinette Senum voted for Growing Community.
