Nevada City Moves Ahead with Sales Tax Hike

The Nevada City, city council decided to move ahead with plans for a 3/8 percent sales take increase. Vice Mayor Dwayne Strawser says he was surprised by the community support.

The police department as well as public works will benefit from the sales tax increase. Strawser says the city is already cut to the bare bones.

the city is currently at 7.85 percent and this increase will put the city just over 8 percent. The council agreed to move forward and staff will now put together the wording and take the necessary steps through the Franchise tax board to put the proposed increase on the November ballot for voter approval.
