Nevada City’s Conservation Rate Drops Some

Water conservation in Nevada City continues to be near or above the maximum state mandate, as well as the city goal contained in the drought resolution approved this summer. But it did drop six points, from July to August, at 35-percent. Sara Johnson, a conservation consultant hired by the city, says they continue to stress education over punishment, like most cities and counties. But they do plan to discontinue their local complaint line and hook up to a state program that fields water wasting calls….

Meanwhile, Nevada City is also holding three drought workshops this fall, in collaboration with the UC Master Gardeners of Nevada County. Johnson says the first one is Saturday, from 9 to 11am, and covers water-wise gardening….

Johnson says the workshops require sign-ups, so the location has not been released in advance, so people don’t just show up. So call 492-47-47 or sent an e-mail to NCdrought@NevadaCityCA.gov. The dates of the other two Saturday workshops have not been scheduled yet but Johnson says they will be held in October. One will cover proper tree watering and the third will focus on lawn and landscape watering.
