After dropping slightly a year ago, Nevada County’s population has gone up slightly. The State Department of Finance says we gained 362 residents, from July 1st of 2015 to July 1st of 2016, after losing 229 residents the previous period. California’s population increased by only .75%. The top 5 counties for percentage growth were Yolo, San Joaquin, Placer, Riverside, and Stanislaus. Meanwhile, California’s birth rate has fallen to the lowest level in modern history. Nevada had a decline of 20 births, or 805. The death rate continues to trend up, as the Baby Boomer generation gets older. Nevada County, with one of the state’s highest senior populations, had 77 more deaths than the previous year, or 1,035, and is one of only 14 counties that experienced more deaths than births.
