Nevada County Supervisors continue to step up their campaign to speed up safety improvements to the Bridgeport covered bridge. They’ve now approved a letter that’s being sent to Governor Brown. Last May, the campaign received a setback, when an Assembly budget subcommittee rejected a request from the State Parks Department to put another 2-point-6 million dollars in this year’s budget, to move up the construction timetable. The money is still slated for the 2018-2019 budget year. But Supervisor Hank Weston says he’s still hoping to get the money included THIS year for NEXT year’s budget…

The Bridgeport covered bridge has been closed to pedestrian traffic since 2011. Weston says if the request is included in the Governor’s budget proposal, construction could resume next year, after river levels drop.
