Nevada Co Veterans Have Closer-To-Home Service

Closer-to-home primary care is now available for hundreds of veterans from Western Sierra Medical Clinic in Grass Valley. Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Glenn Thiel, says the Veterans Choice Program allows them to handle care for vets who live more than 40 miles away or must wait more than 30 days for an appointment at the closest VA facilities, which are in Auburn, Sacramento, and Reno….

Thiel says the Veterans Choice Program is a new, temporary benefit that was established in November of last year to help reduce the ever-growing backlog of cases at VA hospitals and clinics…

Western Sierra currently has about 465 patients who are veterans. Thiel says adding the program could help another 500 to 1000 vets. The program is scheduled to end at the end of 2017, or when the 10-billion dollars in federal funding is depleted.
