Nevada County’s often unheralded, but rich, agricultural history has been made into a half-hour documentary that will be featured on the Sacramento PBS affiliate three times in the next few days, including tonight. The Executive Director of the local Resource Conservation District, Jan Blake, the focus is on ranching families who’ve been tending the same land for multiple generations. The District honored 17 families in 2011….
Blake says the documentary started as just a series of interviews with family members, but the format expanded beyond that, because of all the historical material they kept finding…
The documentary, called “Working Lands: A History of Agriculture in Nevada County”, airs at 7 tonight on KVIE, channel 6. There are also repeat airings Friday afternoon at 4 and next Sunday evening at 6. Blake says other PBS affiliates around the country will also be showing it at later dates. And because there was so much material, she says a one-hour version of the documentary is also available for purchase at the Resource Conservation District office.
