All school busses in California would have to be equipped with child safety alarms which, supporters say, would ensure that children are not left unattended in potentially hazardous circumstances, under a bill moving forward in the State Senate. The bill would also require school bus drivers, upon renewal of their safety certificate, to receive training in child safety-check procedures. The legislation is called the “Paul Lee School Bus Safety Law”. Lee was a special needs student, from Whittier, who died after being left on a bus for many hours. Davison says this school year alone her drivers have found three sleeping students still on the bus.
