This coming week is National Fire Prevention Week, and local fire agencies are taking part, including the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District. There are a couple of open houses at local fire stations, and all week long, firefighters will be spreading the word about how to keep your home safe, and have an evacuation plan. Fire Marshal Terry McMahan says the nationwide theme this year is “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out”…
..maybe the mail box, street light, or a neighbor’s yard. McMahan says most families don’t have a fire plan, and think fires won’t happen to them. To kick off Prevention Week, there is an open house at Station 89 in Alta Sierra tomorrow, and there will also be one to end the week next Saturday at Station 84 on Coyote Street in Nevada City. Hot dogs and other refreshments will be served, and the Public Education Trailer will also be there. McMahan says the trailer even provides a training exercise for kids and adults…
The open houses are from 11am to 2pm. The Nevada County Board of Supervisors will also issue a proclamation in honor of Fire Prevention Week at its meeting on Tuesday.
