Trying to stay ahead of any potential coronavirus outbreak, Nevada County officials have taken a couple of a new steps. The Public Health Department has declared a local health emergency and what they are calling a “local emergency in response to the emerging, rapidly evolving situation and increasing spread of novel coronavirus and COVID 19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.” Jenn Tamo with the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services says her office has also put out information, targeted toward local businesses…

The emergency declarations came after two cases have been diagnosed in neighboring Placer County, including the state’s first death from the virus. Nevada County’s Health Director says the declarations enable the county to respond more quickly if there are coronavirus cases here. There have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nevada County.
