Nevada County Fair Opens Today

It’s the biggest event in Nevada County, and it begins today. The Nevada County Fair opens its doors at 10am, and will continue through Sunday. Everyone has their own favorite thing to do, whether its go on the rides, check out the arts and crafts, or enjoy one of the corn dogs from the Job’s Daughters booth. There is a price for admission, of course, but Fair C-E-O Rea Callendar says they have many different ways for you to save money at the gate…

To save on parking, there is a free shuttle from Nevada Union High School, and Gold Country Stage is offering Free Fare Days through Saturday. Fair Manager Patrick Eidman says there are also many new activities this year…

This year’s theme is ‘Sea You at the Fair’, which includes a tank of sting rays that you and the kids can touch. Don’t worry, the stingers have been removed. When you’re not filling your face with all the goodies from Treat Street, there’s also the Main Exhibit Hall, the arena events, the Ag Mechanics Auction, and the Junior Livestock Auction. That auction is often referred to as the ‘life blood of the fair’, and Livestock Producers Board President Tim Reid says it’s called that for good reason…
