Nevada County Gets Grant To Reduce Opiod Overdoses

As the opiod and heroin epidemic continues to get a national focus, Nevada County has succeeded in joining the state’s Naloxone Distribution Project. They’re getting a 2-year/$10,000 grant for 270 doses of the nasal spray used for overdoses. County Health and Human Services Director, Michael Heggarty, says they’re distributing the doses to public agencies who deal with such emergencies. While these agencies have their own supplies, Heggarty says they’ll be distributing these naloxone doses, which can be quite expensive, free of charge. The doses will be available at Community Recovery Resources, the Nevada County Health Department, and the Grass Valley Fire Department, with other agencies perhaps added later. Some doses will also be used at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility for inmates.
