County Chief Information Officer Steve Monaghan says the declaration is for public lands only, so residents aren’t directly helped. The Grass Valley City Council is also expected to take similar action at its meeting tonight, and Public Works Director Tim Kiser says citizens can be helped indirectly…
P-G-and-E also has a tree-clearing program, which requires an emergency declaration, and Monaghan says the county works with the Fire Safe Council to help county residents plagued by dying and rotting trees. Monaghan also says Nevada County now becomes the northernmost county in the state to make the emergency declaration. Any tree removal work that would be done as a result of the declaration, probably won’t happen until next spring.
