Nevada County Historical Society Speaker Night

The Nevada County Historical Society Speaker Night tonight, January 19,2017 will feature Dr. Robert Chandler, a 32 year Senior Research Historian for Wells Fargo Bank, talking about how California travel was brutally competitive in the 1800’s. He says wells Fargo was instrumental in getting lots of emigrants across the overland trails with their series of stage coaches…He says that’s the part of the banks history that most people are interested in.

Many people came to work in the mines but there were other jobs that Chandler says were good paying for the day…

The highest salaries  went to the Well Fargo Coach Shotgun Messenger or a top notch Agent who would get $125 a month.

The Nevada County Historical Society speaker night event tonight is at 7pm at a new location , at the Sierra Presbyterian Church located at 175 Ridge Road in Nevada City. The presentations are free open to the public and last about one hour.
