Nevada County In Need of Red Cross Volunteers

The month of March has been proclaimed Red Cross Month in Nevada County.  County Supervisors are dedicating the month to all those who support the American Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.  But what was a surprise to learn is that there are only two active Red Cross Volunteers working in Nevada County.

That’s Kathleen Wood-Miller, who, along with fellow volunteer Keith Porter, has been keeping a Red Cross presence in Nevada County.  As you heard, they are in desperate need of more volunteers.

Even with their limited manpower, Wood-Miller is confident the Red Cross would be able to come to aid in the event of a local emergency.

The Red Cross is chartered by Congress but funded entirely by the American people and the vast majority of the work is done by volunteers.  The closest Red Cross Office is in Yuba City.  Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can call that office at (530) 673-1460.
