Nevada County Issues First Licenses

With same-sex marriage now legal in California, the Nevada County Clerk’s office is issuing marriage licenses.

Robyn Meresman and Erica Marquez were the couple from the Los Angeles area. Sierra Sparks and Amanda Burton were the first Nevada County couple to get married this morning. Last week, the United States Supreme Court overturned Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals officially dissolved the stay to enforce the ban on Friday, making same-sex marriage legal again.
