Nevada County Libraries to Participate in Career Online High School Pilot Program

The Nevada County Library will be participating in a Career Online high School Pilot Program after receiving scholarships from the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries and the California State Library system. Nevada County Head Librarian Laura Pappani says Career online High School is an educational program which gives students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and credentialed career certificate at the same time.

Courses include language arts math science and career electives. Pappani says Nevada County has 12 scholarships available, one each paid for by the Friends of Nevada County Library and the Truckee Library.

Students interested in the program must be residents of Nevada County had have a library card in good standing or be able to obtain one. Now that the county has adopted a resolution accepting the scholarships, Pappani says she will publicize the program, recruit potential students and assess candidates through an interview process. Although it is not a requirement of the program, Pappani says she intends to support and encourage the students throughout their time in the program.
