Nevada County Likely In Red COVID Tier Next Week

Nevada County is expected to join an increasing number of California counties that are going back to a more restrictive coronavirus infection tier. The county’s interim Public Health Officer, Doctor Rick Johnson, says the case rate here has surged in the last week, or from 3-point-3 per hundred-thousand population to 6-point-1. A Red Tier would mean restaurants and movie theatres would have to reduce indoor capacity in half again, to 25-percent. Retail stores would have to restrict the number of customers to 50-percent capacity. Bars and breweries not serving food would have to close completely, with wineries only open outdoors. Classroom learning at schools could still continue. The county has only been in the Orange Tier since late September and the positivity rate is still in that range, or at 2. Total case numbers in Nevada County now stand at 733, with active cases surging to 87, as of Tuesday, although with only five hospitalizations.
