Nevada County’s Finances Best In Long Time

Nevada County Supervisors are adopting a new budget. And once again, the county will go into the new fiscal year with a deficit. This one will be around 4-point-3 million dollars, according to Deputy Chief Executive Officer Martin Polt. Polt says the deficit will, again, be offset with their healthy general fund balance. A year ago, the deficit was around 5-point-7 million dollars. Also, for the second year in a row, he says the recently-approved STATE budget won’t mean any major fiscal impacts, unlike the recession years, which necessitated significant layoffs and service cuts. Polt says this is the most stable Nevada County has been in a long time…

But Polt says it’s taken Nevada County about 8 years to recover from recessionary State Budget cuts.
