Nevada County’s New Agriculture Commissioner

Nevada County’s new Ag Commissioner Chris Flores comes to us after 9 years working in agriculture in El Dorado County. She says in many ways agriculture is similar in both counties, for instance they both grow a lot of wine grapes. Besides serving as the primary local enforcement agent for State agricultural laws and regulations the Ag Commissioner also is the Sealer of Weights and Measures.

Flores says she is also a big supporter of agriculture in the schools and she would like to have the Ag Department get involved in the classrooms so the students can learn what Ag Department employees do and what opportunities are out there for them. Flores says she would also like to build a strong Farm Day program and get students involved in growing their own gardens.
