Nevada Teen Killed By Train Near Truckee

A 13-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a train near Truckee. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department reports Anthony Schafer of Sun Valley, Nevada was struck by the train yesterday (Sunday) while observing the Truckee River from the south side of the railway bridge near Farad. A medical helicopter was called in, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Department says no foul play is suspected, and the Highway Patrol reports the death was NOT a suicide. The incident is still being investigated by the Coroner’s office and the Union Pacific Railroad.
